Supporting Student Development, Success, & Persistence

Current and former students may be asked to verify their disciplinary and/or academic standing or history at the College. The Office of College Community Standards (OCCS) partners with students, alumni, other University offices, and external parties (such as graduate schools, employers, and professional associations) to provide timely certification of student academic and disciplinary records.

Requests for Dean's Certifications and other similar verifications of standing are processed in the order received and typically require five business days once all required documentation and consents have been received by OCCS.

OCCS is dedicated to ensuring the privacy of your educational records and will only externally disclose information regarding your academic or disciplinary standing with your written consent or as required by law. Read more about Student Records and FERPA.

OCCS is committed to helping students to understand how academic honesty, mutual respect, and personal responsibility enable the ongoing success of our educational mission. Conduct by students in the College involving possible violation of University policies and regulations and other breaches of standards of behavior expected of University students—whether the student(s) are involved individually or as part of a group, and with the exception of unlawful harassment, discrimination, retaliation or sexual misconduct—should be brought to OCCS promptly.

Some conduct falls outside the scope of the Office of the Dean of Students at the College. It is important that those concerns are promptly referred to the correct University resource.

The Office of College Community Standards (OCCS) coordinates and facilitates the review of student academic performance at the end of each academic quarter. This review is performed by the Academic Review Committee comprised of faculty members and staff within the Office of the Dean of Students in the College. Students are identified for academic review by automatic processes that consider the number of courses taken and completed on-time, as well as the grade(s) received. Review starts as soon as grades become available and the Academic Review Committee can make an informed and individualized assessment of each student's record.

Students at the College are permitted to work up to 20 hours a week in on-campus positions without petitioning the Dean of Students Office. Students may request permission to work up to 25 hours per week by submitting a request to OCCS. Students need permission from the human resources partner(s) for each of their positions before submitting a petition. The Dean of Students Office will not approve requests to work for more than 25 hours per week.

Students occasionally encounter challenges inside and outside the classroom which impact their ability to succeed and thrive in their studies.

OCCS supports students experiencing these challenges by connecting with campus and community support resources and (when necessary) helping to facilitate leaves from and returns to study.

The Office of College Community Standards partners with many University offices and resources to support student well-being, health, safety, and success.  Students experiencing challenges in these domains may find additional assistance through the following campus partners:
