Unique programs and events for second-years in the College
Dear Class of 2024 Students and Families,
As we look ahead to Autumn Quarter 2021, the College has put together a comprehensive welcome program for students in the Class of 2024, with the goal of providing opportunities for these students to connect with one another and reintroducing resources available to support their academic journey.
The program, called 2024: Rising, will take place from Sept. 24 through Oct. 28. A variety of events, workshops, and activities will be offered as part of the program, including:
2024: Rising will culminate on Oct. 23 with a bagpipe procession through Hull Gate, a time-honored College tradition that signifies students’ official welcome into the University of Chicago community. We are pleased to offer this experience for the Class of 2024, which health protocols did not allow for last year. Families and friends are invited to join us on campus for this special celebration of the Class of 2024.
The full schedule of activities for 2024: Rising will be announced in the coming weeks, and additional details will be shared leading up to the start of Autumn Quarter. In the meantime, for the most up-to-date information, visit the 2024: Rising webpage.
Public health guidelines may compel the College to modify, reschedule or cancel these events.
We hope you enjoy the rest of summer, and we look forward to welcoming you back to campus during upper class student move-in taking place Sept. 24 through 26.
Welcome to the UChicago community of parents and families. As your student begins to make the transition into the College, we know that there will be a period of transition for you as well. As a parent or family member of a UChicago student, you are considered part of the extended UChicago community. We hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities we offer to engage with the faculty, staff, students, and alumni on campus and around the world.
One of the defining aspects of study at UChicago is its setting in the city of Chicago and the Hyde Park neighborhood. Here, opportunities to interact with the city’s cultural institutions, neighborhoods, and more are woven into student life. Chicago offers countless experiences—in every field imaginable—that connect learning on campus to the world outside the classroom.
