We know that starting at a new university comes with a lot of moving parts, and our goal is to point you toward the right tools, resources, and communities to help you feel at home. Yes! Transfer students are encouraged to pursue undergraduate research at UChicago. You can explore available opportunities and resources through the College Center for Research and Fellowships (CCRF) Undergraduate Research page. We also encourage you to connect with faculty early to learn more about research opportunities in your areas of interest.

Yes! Transfer students are absolutely eligible for fellowships and scholarships. We encourage you to explore opportunities through the College Center for Research and Fellowships (CCRF), including their National Scholarships and Fellowships page.

You are welcome to request letters of recommendation from faculty and staff at your previous institution. While we encourage you to build relationships with mentors at the University of Chicago over time, we understand that your previous instructors and advisors may know you better and can speak more fully to your strengths and experiences. You may also share our Writing Recommendations resource page with anyone you ask to write on your behalf.

Yes, for certain subject areas. The College Core Tutor Program is a peer-based tutoring program designed to provide one-on-one assistance and small group support for UChicago undergraduate students enrolled in foundational scientific and quantitative courses. You can also find support for writing with College Core Writing Tutors.

Yes! The University provides an official interactive campus map to help you locate buildings, pathways, and key resources across campus. You can also explore our office's curated map of student resources, study spots, coffee shops, and shopping locations on and around campus. 

There are several great ways to connect with fellow transfer students and get involved on campus:

  • Join the Transfer Student Advisory Board (TSAB): This group helps shape the transfer student experience and is a great way to meet others. Keep an eye on our calendar and newsletter for updates on how to get involved.
  • Attend transfer meetups and social events: The TSO hosts informal gatherings throughout the quarter where you can meet other transfer students in a relaxed setting.
  • Use the Transfer Student Contact Exchange: This is a simple way to connect directly with other transfer students who are also looking to build community.
