Raven Rainey

Major: Political science | Minor: Art history

Raven Rainey, president of Student Government, credits UChicago for helping her realize her “love for the pursuit of knowledge.”

“While I took classes in my major and minor, I also found interest in things that have absolutely nothing to do with them,” said Rainey, a political science major and art history minor.

During her time at UChicago, Rainey was also involved with The Emergency Fund, Social Sciences and Humanities Majors of Color and Housing and Residence Life.

What Rainey loves most about UChicago were the random encounters with her friends on campus.

“Whether that was on the Quad, at my House table, in the House lounge or the Reg,” she said. “The moments to discuss an idea that had been bugging me since class or just finding time to catch up. The exchange of knowledge didn't just happen in the classroom, but everywhere.”

Rainey wants to remind other students that time moves quickly. “Enjoy as much as you can, learn as much as you can and cherish every moment. Spontaneous adventures are the best, and I promise you that some things can wait, but moments won't.”

Next year Rainey will be working at a civic education nonprofit in San Francisco.
