Kimberly Ho
“UChicago has changed my life for the better. Thank you to UChicago because I have met some of the best and greatest people, friends and mentors in my life.”
Triple major Kimberly Ho credits UChicago for allowing her to pursue multiple academic interests.
“UChicago gave me a second opportunity at the humanities. I could not have imagined anywhere else where I could have studied the sciences and humanities together,” she said.
Ho was a teaching assistant for biochemistry, a research assistant for a lab studying the impact of telemedicine for patients from the South Side and a lab member for her thesis research. She also participated in University of Chicago Emergency Medical Service, Maroon Tutor Match, the Society for Scientists of Color and the Women’s Ensemble.
Ho’s favorite experience was participating in an intensive language program in Beijing. There, she had the opportunity to take what she was learning in the classroom and directly apply it to her everyday life. Not only did take away invaluable language skills, but she made a new group of friends who she sees regularly.
Looking back on her time at UChicago, she gives us the following advice: “Take the time to do what you like. It could be grabbing a dinner with a friend, going on a bike ride or watching a movie. This pandemic taught me that things don't need to be put on wait, just go for it.”
Next year, Ho will attend medical school at NYU Long Island School of Medicine.
