Giovanna Gari
When Giovanna Gari, an active member of Peer Health Advocates and Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi sorority, looks back on her time in the College, the thing that stands out to her the most are the people.
“Graham House gave me my best friends and roommates, my pseudo-cool aunt and uncle in the form of Resident Heads and the fluffiest dog to visit whenever things got hard throughout the years,” said Gari, a psychology major with a minor in education and society. “Peer Health Advocates helped me meet people who were sweet and caring beyond belief. My sorority gave me a home away from home.”
“All of my best memories here have wholly included all of the people I've met on this campus. When I think back, their smiles, laughs and hugs are all I see,” she added.
Gari’s advice to other students is to take the classes they want. “There will always be time for the required courses, so take the classes that are only offered once in a lifetime and only offered here at UChicago,” she said.
After graduation, Gari will be doing service work in Miami through City Year AmeriCorps, an education nonprofit that provides support and resources to local schools.
