Deadlines
For students on a leave of absence, ordinarily the deadline for submitting this request is at least four weeks prior to the start of the quarter in which the student intends to return.
Students who have exceeded eight quarters of approved leave, unless otherwise provided for by College policy, or who have been administratively withdrawn, are required to submit this form and supporting documentation no later than six weeks prior to the start of the quarter of intended return.
Petitions that are received after the above deadlines will be considered for the following quarter.
Supplementary Information
If your resumption is contingent upon a medical condition being resolved or managed successfully, the Dean of Students in the College may require supplementary information from UChicago Student Wellness attesting to your readiness to successfully resume studies.
Students returning from an academic or disciplinary suspension are required to submit a statement about their time away, how they occupied themselves, job-related accomplishments, and plans to ensure academic success after resumption of study. A letter of recommendation from an employer also will be required.
Students who have exceeded eight quarters of approved leave or who have withdrawn either voluntarily or administratively are required to complete and attach this supplementary information along with this form.
Review
Requests to resume study are reviewed and processed by the Office of College Community Standards in the order in which they are received.
Unless otherwise provided for by College policy, students' requests to return to the College after being on leave for more than eight cumulative quarters, who have been administratively withdrawn, or are returning from an academic or disciplinary probation or suspension, must be approved by the Academic Standing Committee.
