Description:

Although John Locke has long been celebrated as a champion of liberal freedom and toleration, and a defender of the right of revolution, his writings have also been interpreted as advancing an ideological defense of capitalism and as laying a foundation for practices of indigenous dispossession and racial slavery in the Americas. Join Mara Caden, Paul Cheney, Sankar Muthu, and Lucas Pinheiro as they discuss the ambivalent legacies of Locke’s writings and explore the insights that can be gleaned from returning to Locke today.
