College Programming and Orientation

Pre-Orientation Housing and Luggage Storage

Pre-Orientation move-in dates vary by program; move-in dates can be found on each program's website and times will be confirmed with participants over the summer. Students will not be permitted to move into the Pre-Orientation residence hall prior to their program's specified date and time unless prior permission has been granted by your program's organizers.

Arriving on Campus for Pre-Orientation

Any participant who has a term time assignment outside of Woodlawn will be allowed to drop off any luggage and belongings not needed for the week in their term time assignment upon arrival to campus. This is simply a drop-off; there will NOT be time to unpack, check out your room, or take a nap. Please note: you will not be able to access anything you put into storage during pre-orientation week, once you drop off your things, we will not be able to let you back in until Monday, September 23.

Upon arrival to campus, participants should first check in to Woodlawn Residential Commons (1156 E 61st St. Chicago, IL 60637) to receive their student ID and key to their temporary room. After receiving your ID, you can head to the front desk of your term time residence hall to receive your room key and drop any items you do not need for the week in your term assignment room. You must return the key to the front desk once you have dropped your items. Again, this time is not intended for unpacking or setting up your room. If you forget to return your key, you may be charged a key replacement fee.

We highly recommend limiting the number of term-time items you bring to 3 large bins or boxes. Regardless of what you bring, you MUST label all items with your name and phone number.

Final Day of Pre-Orientation

On the morning of Monday, September 23, students will check out of their pre-orientation housing before the day's programming and move into their term time residence hall.

A Note for Loved Ones

Loved ones accompanying participants to move-in for pre-orientation are more than welcome to assist their student with moving in items. However, they must be accompanied by their student at all times, loved ones are not allow in the building without their students.

Loved ones who would like to assist students with setting up their residence hall room on Monday, September 23rd should be aware that students will have varying obligations that day, dependent on their program. Those wishing to meet up with their students should communicate with their student to determine the best time to arrive. Please note that loved ones are also welcome to bring additional student belongings on Tuesday, September 24th or Wednesday, September 25th during regular Orientation move-in beginning at 9:00 AM.

For students participating in the Phoenix Outdoor Program, arrival back to campus on Monday, September 23rd will be in the early afternoon, but is contingent upon traffic.
