July 20 - August 14:
Schedule a required appointment with your assigned adviser through the College Scheduling Site

You will receive an email on July 13 notifying you of your assigned adviser. Thirty-minute appointments will be available starting July 20 and will run through August 14. Appointments take place on Zoom, or a phone call could be arranged if requested.

To prepare for this appointment, we encourage students to complete the following tasks:

  1. Review the degree requirements, including the Core curriculum, and consider which classes within the College Core might be the best fit for you given your academic interests.
    1. Complete the Core Curriculum Quiz in the Academic Advising Canvas course to test your knowledge (Canvas course opens June 22).
    2. Attend the Introduction to the Core Curriculum webinar scheduled for June 25 from 12PM-1:30PM CDT.
  2. Explore the College Catalog to become familiar with the many academic programs on campus.
    1. Watch the How to Navigate the College Catalog Video.
  3. Complete the Summer Meeting Questionnaire in in the Academic Advising Canvas course before arriving at your appointment.
    1. Be prepared to discuss your interests, values, and ambitions with your adviser to clarify educational, career, and personal goals you may currently have.
  4. Arrive at your virtual meeting on time and prepared to actively engage in discussion. All meetings are Central Daylight Time (CDT).
    1. Important: Please do not schedule your advising appointment during a time where you may be in a car, at the mall, or some other distracting setting. We will be reviewing your plans for your first quarter and it is important that you find a quiet room with a stable internet connection and join Zoom on a laptop so your adviser can easily screen share if needed.
  5. Check your UChicago email account regularly for University communications, including messages from your academic adviser.

After August 15:
Continue to use your adviser as a resource:

Your assigned Academic Adviser will be available to answer questions through the end of summer. Additionally, you will meet with your assigned Academic Adviser during Orientation Week and once per quarter during your first year in the College.
