What drew you to UChicago after your military service?
I knew that here I would find other fiercely intelligent students who would not only push themselves and by extension me as a matter of nature, but consistently surprise me with their curiosity. I also knew that I would receive exposure to more than just areas of personal interest.
How have your past experiences influenced your academic and career interests?
In brief, my past imparted to me a sense of grit, curiosity, and what is worth sacrificing for. We're here to make our world a better place, and UChicago as well as my career form central parts of that path.
What is your favorite class you took at UChicago?
Hard to pick a favorite, but one I deeply enjoyed was Dr. Brohpy's “Policy Implementation.” While specific lessons from it will always stick with me, such as the structural and cultural challenges that institutions face as they attempt to put policy into effect, Dr. Brophy's fantastic lecturing and teaching skills through the stress of COVID was very special and helped me understand that UChicago truly attracts world-class faculty.
What is your fondest college memory?
It is also really difficult to pick the fondest memory because there is a blur of memories. For example, leading a trip of students last year, funded by the Outdoor Adventure Club to Zion National Park was extremely special. Equally special was pulling late nights in the Reg and friends' apartments, I really enjoyed the shared sense of academic purpose found here.
After graduation, what are your future plans?
I plan to continue to give back, working as a civil servant in the public sector.
