Building a Relationship
Students are required to meet with their College Advisers once each quarter in the first year, and once a year thereafter. All students, however, are encouraged to meet with their advisers as frequently as necessary. Students who are experiencing particular academic or personal difficulties may request multiple meetings in one quarter. To establish an effective advising relationship, College Advisers need to know their students well; the better a student knows his or her adviser, the easier it is to gauge how an adviser can be helpful.
Ordinarily during the last two years in the College, a student will develop new relationships with departments, lab directors, or BA advisers. This development is as it should be: College Advisers hope that students develop the capacity to seek out mentors while in college and beyond.
