Since 1949, students and young alumni from UChicago have consistently earned opportunities to teach, research or obtain graduate degrees through the Fulbright Program, the flagship program of the U.S. State Department.
Teaching English in Brazil’s Amazon region, conducting biology research at the iconic Pasteur Institute in Paris, earning a Master's degree in Global Health at National Taiwan University, or conducting archival research in Austria are just a few of the unparalleled opportunities through which 800 UChicago Fulbrighters have made a global impact since the program’s inception.
This year, 15 recent College alums were selected for the Fulbright US Student Program, which aims to help American students build mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange.
UChicago has been named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for U.S. students by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for the past 17 years.
A significant driving force behind the College’s success in the Fulbright program is the College Center for Research and Fellowships (CCRF), which supports students in the College as they pursue faculty-mentored research opportunities and nationally competitive fellowships, such as Fulbright. Graduate student applicants to Fulbright are supported by UChicagoGRAD.
In February, the College spoke with two Fulbright winners in the 2021 Fulbright Cohort, Noelani Bernal, AB'21, and Ayushi Hegde, AB/BS'22, who shared their experiences navigating the application process with CCRF’s team of experienced advisers. Read their advice for future applicants here.
The following members of the 2022 UChicago Fulbright Cohort were named as finalists for Fulbright’s 2023-2024 award year. Each student or alum of the College is listed with their respective degree track, graduation year, Fulbright host country and Fulbright award name.
