Homecoming Week was celebrated on the campus of the University of Chicago from October 21-26, an event that coincided with parents’ weekend and brought excitement to campus with a wide array of activities. The week featured presentations, giveaways, traditions, and competitions and ended with a festive block party and Maroons football game against rival Cornell.
Among the events that took place were a kickoff event to begin the week, an athletic-focused virtual event that covered Maroon alumni that have been involved in the Olympic Games over the years, and “Shake Day”, a beloved tradition that gave students an opportunity to purchase a milkshake and customize it to their hearts content.
The House Banner Competition returned for another year, giving house members within the different residential commons on campus the chance to win prizes for their friends and neighbors by painting a unique design and displaying it during one of the headline events of the weekend.
Saturday, the last day of Homecoming Week, featured a huge block party on 56th Street. The event was lined with both food and activity booths, and parents, students, and alumni could be seen sporting school colors and merchandise. Maroon and white tattoos and tassels were handed out to foster even more spirit as everyone geared up for either the football game at Stagg Field or the annual dining hall grilling competition to close out the festivities. A parade led the attendees to the stadium where the Maroons would dominate play and end the week on a high note with a 33-14 victory over the Rams.
