Kaedy Puckett Molley

Kaedy Puckett Molley is a veteran of the United States Navy, in which she served from 2009 to 2019. During her time in the College, she explored her interests in business and interdisciplinary studies. After graduating with a degree in comparative human development, she will work at Pretium, a New York-based private equity firm, as a real estate analyst.

What drew you to UChicago after your military service?

I was drawn to UChicago because of its reputation for academic rigor and intellectual inquiry. More specifically, however, UChicago offers the exact interdisciplinary major I was interested in studying: Comparative Human Development.

How have your past experiences influenced your academic and career interests?

Having quite a bit more life experience than many of my undergraduate peers gave me a unique appreciation for the opportunity to become educated at such a prestigious institution. My military service empowered me to embody confident humility and be fearlessly inquisitive in the classroom, which helped to facilitate some incredible learning interactions and friendships. I also think that my accumulation of non-traditional learning experiences has enabled me to carve out a career path beyond what I might have originally envisioned for myself.

What RSOs or other programs at UChicago were you a part of?

I was fortunate to help found the veteran RSO on campus. I also participated in Campus Crew, Women in Business, and the Trott Business Program. My two favorite experiences, however, included my involvement with the Student Alumni Committee and attending a September course at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) the summer before my fourth year.

What advice would you give to future Veteran Scholars?

I would remind future veteran scholars that their military service does not exclusively define them, but rather, it shapes part of who they are. I think UChicago provides an exceptional opportunity to explore new facets of oneself and to deepen our understanding of how to make an impact within the greater social world that we inhabit. As such, I would encourage future veteran scholars to connect as often and as deeply as possible with their fellow students and instructors, and to pursue whatever it is they are most passionate about.

After graduation, what are your plans?

After graduation, my husband and I will take some time to do a bit of traveling together before I start my full-time job.
