Move In

Move In Schedule & Time Slots

The majority of incoming new students will move into their assigned residence halls between Tuesday, September 24 and Wednesday, September 25. New students participating in a Pre-Orientation Program will be provided more details on their move in schedule in mid-June. Pre-season athletes should contact their coach for more details on their move in schedule.

To provide an efficient move in experience, new students who are not participating in a Pre-Orientation Program or arriving early as a pre-season athlete are required to select a specific move in time slot. This selection can be made within each student's housing application via the myHousing portal.

FAQs

Many of our residence halls are used during the summer months for conference guests or students attending classes. Other residence halls may be going through various construction or renovation projects during the summer. For these reasons, we are unable to permit students and families access to the interior portions of the halls prior to move in, however you may view panoramic tours of all room types here.

In order to ensure we have ample time to prepare the halls and rooms for occupancy, we are unable to accommodate requests to arrive before the designated move in period. Students requiring accommodations before their move in date must make their own arrangements.

We will begin accepting advance shipments on Tuesday, September 5. Items arriving prior to this date will be returned to sender. Shipments requiring a signature will be signed for by front desk/mail room staff and once entered into our system, you will receive an email communication through your UChicago email account. Due to the very high volume of parcels we receive prior to the residence halls opening, it can take up to 48 hours from the time your parcel arrives to your residence hall to the time you receive the aforementioned communication. If 48 hours have passed since the parcel has arrived to campus and you have not received the email communication, please email housing@uchicago.edu with details about your parcel, including shipper (i.e. UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.) and tracking number. Items that are not permitted in the residence halls will be returned to sender upon arrival.

Individual parcels should weigh no more than 50 lbs. each and be addressed in the following format: Student Name, Residence Hall Name, Room Number, Residence Hall Street Address, Chicago, IL 60637. Once housing assignments have been released in mid-August, you can find your residence hall street address in the myHousing portal, under Current Assignment Details or by selecting your residence hall from this page.

Items may be held at the front desk/mail room for you to pick-up after you arrive or delivered directly to your housing assignment by department staff, depending on the overall volume of parcels by residence hall.
