Description:

Join the IOP as we welcome UChicago alum Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for a live taping of “The Axe Files” podcast, hosted by Institute of Politics Director David Axelrod. Together, they will discuss Sen. Sanders’s career in public service, his campaigns for president, the future of the progressive movement, and America’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently serving his third term in the U.S. Senate after 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Sen. Sanders is the longest-serving independent member of Congress in American history. In both 2016 and 2020, his grassroots campaigns for the Democratic nomination gave voice to the party’s progressive wing and pushed the party platform further left on issues from healthcare to taxes. Since suspending his presidential campaign in April, he has endorsed Vice President Biden and has appeared as a surrogate for the Biden campaign.

Following the recording, Sen. Sanders will answer student questions.
