Jay Gibbs

East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Public Policy, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, and Political Science Quadruple Major

That was the thought echoing through Jay Gibbs' mind as he spent his final weeks at UChicago witnessing "Black lives matter!" echo through cities, fill social media, and throw color in the face of ivory towers.

Gibbs is a quadruple major in East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Public Policy, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, and Political Science. Outside of the classroom, Gibbs was president of the Chicago Debate Society, involved in Model UN and served as chair of the Coalition of Academic Teams within Student Government. He was also active in the Center for Leadership and Involvement and the Institute of Politics, participating in UChicago Leads, Leaders of Color and the Student Leadership Institute.

One of Gibbs’ favorite memories is studying in different spots around campus. “I loved the image of the quad at night under heavy snow. Enjoying that quiet scenery after a night of studying was always amazing.”

After graduating, Gibbs will move to New York City to conduct economics research.
