Gabe Barrón

Biological Sciences Major

Biological sciences major Gabe Barrón first became enthralled with research after volunteering in a lab on campus. “The prospect of discovery and the process of coming to understand phenomena was an experience unparalleled by any other activity in my life and has come to greatly shape my college career.”

After a summer fellowship researching immunology at Yale School of Medicine, Barrón worked in UChicago Prof. Anne I. Sperling’s lab, where he studied how gut bacteria can influence immune responses in the lung.

Barrón also served as a resident assistant for Rickert House, volunteered at Blackstone Bikeworks and was both a scholar and resident assistant with the Chicago Academic Achievement Program.

Next year, Barrón will pursue a doctoral degree in immunology at Stanford University.
