The Dean's Parent and Family Council is comprised of parents who support Dean John W. Boyer's priorities, including creating new avenues for students to study abroad, strengthening financial resources, and broadening research opportunities.
The Council was created to reflect the importance of these families in the College's success. We ask these select parents to become investors and advocates, to support one of the world’s great universities.
The current co-chairs of the Dean's Parent and Family Council are Buffy Poon and Alexy Poon, parents of member of the class of 2024.
Becoming a Member
Members of the Dean’s Parent and Family Council make annual gifts of at least $15,000 to either the Dean's Fund for Student Life or the Odyssey Scholarship Program. We also ask that members make a major gift to the area or program of their choice at some point during their time as College parents.
Members of the Dean’s Parent and Family Council are invited to biannual meetings on campus, featuring presentations from world-renowned faculty, receptions with Dean Boyer and other prominent University faculty and staff, and extensive looks into University programs like Career Advancement, the Odyssey Scholarship Program, and more. With the help of current members, we are also expanding our schedule of small, private receptions around the country held throughout the year. These receptions often include guest speakers related to the University.
Additionally, each member of the Council has a dedicated liaison to further engagement in all areas of the College.
Member Responsibilities
In addition to philanthropy, members can host admitted student receptions, Summer Send Off parties, or other events; secure or facilitate opportunities for UChicago students through the Metcalf Internship Program at their place of business; and advocate for the College within their sphere of influence.
To join the Council, please reach out to a member of the Parent and Family Philanthropy Team. They are happy to walk you through the process or answer any questions you might have.
