Open to all members of the university community, our lunch talk will feature a panel of professors debating the appropriateness of colleges using the preponderance of the evidence (POE) standard to determine responsibility in sexual misconduct cases. The panel will also discuss how much deference the Department of Education/Office of Civil Rights' 2011 Dear Colleague Letter (suggesting that standard) should receive, along with the growing number of Title IX suits filed by male students. Confirmed speakers include Professors Katharine Baker (IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law), Nancy Cantalupo (Barry University School of Law), Richard Epstein (University of Chicago Law School), and Daniel Hemel (University of Chicago Law School). The debate will be moderated by Professor Emily Buss (University of Chicago Law School). Funded in Part by Student Government.
